Peggy Doviak
President, D.M. Wealth Management, Inc.

“Pursuing the Rational Investor:  Using the Principles of Behavioral Finance  in Your Financial Planning Practice”

This interactive discussion compares and contrasts major principles within integrated finance, behavioral finance, and traditional finance.  Abandoning the purely rational investor does not make traditional finance obsolete, but it suggests that the psychology and belief systems of our clients play a powerful in shaping their actions.  Strategies for helping investors understand how they view money are provided as part of the talk.  In addition, Peggy will be sharing the experiences of other advisors as they learned the strategies and implemented them as part of the requirements for “The Psychology of Money,” a course she developed through the College for Financial Planning.

ETHICS SESSION: “CFP Board’s Standards of Professional Conduct”

Fulfilling the 2 hours of ethics required by the CFP Board of Standards, this seminar discusses specifics within the Code of Ethics, changes to the Code, and the importance of a including ethics when defining a profession.  Further, the definition and scope of financial planning are analyzed.  In an age where “financial literacy” is becoming popular in the media, it becomes more important that the public understand the impressive scope of financial planning practiced well along with the knowledge of what is not true financial planning.

Peggy Doviak was a college instructor and corporate trainer before she entered finance in 2002. Since 2003, she has been president of D.M. Wealth Management, Inc., a firm that specializes in comprehensive financial planning and fee-only portfolio management.

She is an Associate Professor for the College for Financial Planning in Denver, Colorado, and has taught in the corporate headquarters of Schwab, Ameriprise, Smith Barney, and other major brokerage and advisory firms.

Jodi Beggs
Economist and Author of the blog Economists do it with Models

My name is Jodi Beggs, and I am in charge of this Economists Do It With Models thing. I am, in fact, an economist, and my overall goal is to present economics both in the media and in the classroom in a way that is informative, practical and, to the degree that it can be, fun. In a perfect world I would be some sort of odd hybrid of Steve Levitt (see Freakonomics), Demetri Martin (see here) and Jon Stewart (hopefully you don’t need any clarification on that one). Stated another way, I want to trick people into learning stuff and (mildly) entertain them in the process.
